Imdadul Islam (Myin)

A special interest or interest in doing something is called a hobby. Hobby is such a human interest, which helps people to achieve self-satisfaction. A hobbyist is a creative person who knows how to be happy in the midst of a thousand frustrations by focusing on his hobby. Truly a hobbyist and creative person can leave a lasting presence in this transitory world.

I am Imdadul Islam (Myin). I am an auditor of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board by profession. I have a hobby like any other hobbyist. And that hobby is to collect coins and bank notes of different countries, colonies and states. Especially collecting coins and banknote of all countries, colonies and states during World War II (1939-45). Basically, this is the theme of my coin and note collection.

My hobby journey started almost 16 years ago today.

My father, Mr. Yusuf Molla, was an expatriate in Kuwait for 27 years. Therefore, it is natural that my foreign coin collection started with my father. He helped me a lot to collect coins especially from Middle Eastern countries. Besides, relatives and acquaintances living abroad helped me to collect coins from some other Asian and European countries.

Although initially collecting foreign coins was just a past time, it was during my BBA studies at Jagannath University in 2009 that I realized that coin collecting had become my hobby and passion. One day, while buying coins from a mobile coin shop in Gulistan, I met coin collector late Mustofa Sanwar Uncle. He informed me about the weekly BNPA auctions held at Dhaka GPO.

Then my hobby of collecting coins took a consistent form. I started to participate in the Friday BNPA auctions. There I came to know about various collector pages on FB and some of the prominent coin collectors of the country. At the beginning of the collection of coins and notes, i set a goal to collect at least one coin from each country. But in 2012 I watched a documentary video on the History Channel on TV about the history of the bloody World War II (WW2). With great interest, I later watched many more videos about the World War II on YouTube. I was greatly attracted by the history of the bloody war between the Axis and the Allies, the violence during the war and the geopolitical situation of the world after the war. So then i decided  to collect at least one or more coins and bank notes of all countries, colonies and states of (WW2) period (1939-45).And it is still going on. As a small collector, I am a fan of renowned collector, Robiul Islam Bhai. It was under his patronage and encouragement that I became a life member of Bangladesh Numismatics Collectors’ Society (BNCS), the first established and largest coin and banknote collectors' society in Bangladesh. As a result, my World War II coin and banknote collection received a national organizational recognition. I would like to express my special gratitude to my family, friends, students and some familiar younger siblings for being positive in my hobby of coin and banknote collecting.
