Rakibul Alam

It’s me Rakibul Alam, a dedicated Numismatic Banknotes collector from Bangladesh, widely recognized for my specialized focus on Polymer Banknotes varieties. My passion for collecting was inspired during childhood by my father, long times ago he was a devoted stamp (philatelic) collector and had completed a full stamp album. Witnessing that commitment and preservation of history planted the foundation for my own collecting journey.

In 2020, l officially began my numismatic path, focusing on banknotes. Within a few years, I developed an extensive and carefully curated collection, demonstrating both research depth and global networking within the collector community.

Specialization: Polymer Banknotes

My primary collection theme is polymer banknotes. I have successfully collected more than 460+ polymer banknote varieties issued by polymer-producing countries worldwide. My collection includes:

§ Commemorative and regular polymer issues

§ Year varieties

§ Different prefixes and design variations

§ Replacement and special print issues (where applicable)

§ Multiple denominations across issuing countries

My polymer collection reflects the technological evolution of modern banknote printing, including advanced security features such as transparent windows, holographic elements, microprinting, and tactile features.

Numismatic Expertise & Collection Focus

As a dedicated numismatist, my collection reflects a deep commitment to research, preservation, and systematic documentation across multiple areas of monetary history.

Beyond polymer banknotes, I maintain a comprehensive and well-organized collection of Bangladeshi paper money varieties. This includes signature combinations, prefix varieties, design and color variations, and commemorative issues. I place special importance on properly cataloguing each variety to ensure historical accuracy and structured classification.

In addition to Bangladeshi currency, I actively collect international and historically significant banknotes, including country-focused foreign issues, old-era and large-size notes, historical circulation currency, and pre-modern or transitional issues. My interest extends beyond collecting — I study the political, economic, and cultural background behind each note, understanding currency as a reflection of national identity and historical transformation.

Alongside paper money, I also maintain a selective collection of coins from the Mughal Empire and the Bengal Sultanate periods. These coins represent the rich monetary heritage of South Asia and highlight the artistic and administrative evolution of the region’s currency systems.

Through research-driven collecting and careful documentation, my goal is not only to preserve currency but to preserve the stories and history embedded within it.

 International & National Affiliations

I do actively engage in the numismatic community at both international and national levels:

§ International Member – IBNS (International Bank Note Society)

§ Life Member – BNCS (Bangladesh Numismatic Collectors Society)

§ General Secretary – ODCS (Old Dhaka Collectors Society)

§ Member – Shokher Mela Committee

§ Build one of the most complete polymer banknote collections in the region
